It’s the role of a leader to nurture the growth of their team members. Conducting biannual performance reviews is a great practice, not to criticize isolated actions from the past but to holistically discuss an employee’s performance and potential. Sometimes leaders convene with their peers prior to these dialogs, to review the evaluations of their team members. Not everyone may be acquainted with all reviewees, but the process encourages everyone to challenge each other’s perspectives. A great opportunity to train everybody’s ‘leadership muscle’ while the evaluations get only better !
