Knowing Isn’t Changing

Most leaders know the behaviors that would make them more effective. But knowing is the easy part. Changing our behavior is much harder.

Marshall Goldsmith suggests a simple way to hold ourselves accountable. At the end of each day, ask yourself a few questions:

Did I do my very best to listen today?
Did I do my very best to empower my people?
Did I do my very best to give meaningful feedback?

Then rate yourself from 1 to 10. Don’t judge yourself. Track yourself. Over time, patterns will emerge. Small changes, practiced consistently, can transform the leader you become.

If you rated your leadership behavior every day, what patterns would you discover?
Which question should you start asking yourself at the end of every day?
