Some people energize us. Others frustrate us. Their style, attitude, personality, or way of working may simply rub us the wrong way.
That’s human. But as a leader, your responsibility is to make sure that personal feelings don’t determine how much support someone receives from you.
Be curious instead of judgmental. Ask yourself what you might not yet understand about this person. Focus on their strengths and contributions. Look for common ground. And pay particular attention to your own behavior.
Great leadership shows most clearly in how well you lead the people you don’t like.
What assumptions have you made about someone who rubs you the wrong way?
Would your team members say you treat everyone fairly—even those you don’t naturally connect with?
What does your behavior bring out in the people around you ?
If your team mirrored your behavior, would you like what you see ?
