Leadership is not only about what you say, decide, or expect. It is about how you behave every day. Your behavior affects the people around you. It shapes how people feel when they work with you.
And how people feel influences how they engage. How much they contribute.
So, when engagement is low, it is easy to ask: What is wrong with my team? A better leadership question might be: What am I doing—or not doing—that contributes to what I see?
You cannot control the engagement of others. But you can be intentional about the behavior you bring into every interaction.
What does your behavior bring out in the people around you ?
If your team mirrored your behavior, would you like what you see ?
