You were so certain that you announced boastfully something like “your job is safe”, or “you’re the next sales director”, or “we will fix that problem for you”. Then reality kicks in and just a few months later you cannot live up to the promise you made. Accept your responsibility and reach out to those that you let down. Don’t look for excuses, you were wrong. Express your regret and let the other person know what you wish you would have done differently. Ask if there is anything you can do to make things better. Show that you care!
