Today’s teams are more at risk to find themselves divided into subgroups because they are dispersed, diverse and digital. They can easily waste energy with ‘Them Versus Us’ thinking, as it happens when general managers go against functional leaders or team members in one region against those in another. As soon as you recognize these symptoms, tear down the invisible walls. Create space for people to get to know each other on a personal level, to be creative together. Assign tasks to duos from different subgroups. Strong teams have a shared mindset, a common identity, a ‘We’ thinking!
